Swimming Lessons, Pre-Swimmers

We will be offering in-house swimming lessons without an affiliation to a national organization. Several of our swimming lesson staff have years of experience.  These classes are structured like the popular classes we offered last year - offered in the morning this year.

Each session will last a week, Monday through Friday, without the usual thunderstorm make-up day. These lessons will be held at Adams Pool.

Pre-Swimmers is for any age, but we expect many of the registrants to be younger. The big difference between Pre-swimmer and Tiny Tots is the absence of a caretaker in the water with the child. This is the first step of a participant in being in the water independently. These registrants will be learning in the shallow end of the pool.  Prerequisites are being able to blow bubbles, confidently submerge mouth in water and can jump on land. A support person for the participant is not expected in this class. If the child has separation anxiety from a guardian, please consider enrolling in the Tiny Tots class.

Purpose:  This class is primarily offered to build confidence in the water, entering and exiting the water voluntarily and moving independently. Some water safety will be taught at every level.  The participant is in the lesson without a care giver.  This class is limited to 4 participants per class so if these groups fills up, you may want to consider Tiny Tots and being in the water with your child.

Session Schedule:
Session 1 - June 22-26
Session 2 - June 29- July 3 
Session 3 - July 6 - 10
Session 4 - July 13-17
Session 5 - July 20 - 24
Session 6 - July 27 - July 31
Session 7 - August 3-7
Session 8 - August 10-14


Cost:          $24/session/resident of Peterborough
                   $31/session/non-resident  

Time:          Group A, 10:00am to 10:30am
                    Group B, 10:35am to 11:05am
                    Group C, 11:10am to 11:40am
 
Payment required before attending.  Rosters will be printed Friday at noon prior to each session. If you register after noon on Friday please print a receipt or have the receipt on your phone to show the instructor.

Progressive order of swimming levels
  • Tiny Tots (An adult needs to accompany the child)
  • Pre-Swimmers (for those wee ones who don't need a parent/guardian in the water but need to get more comfortable with water)
  • Learning Basics (two groups, older and younger age groups)
  • Building Skills (one level group)
  • Advanced Swimmer (skill development)
