We will be part of Souhegan Valley Youth Basketball League once again (Wilton-Lyndeborough, New Ipswich, and Rindge will be our primary opponents). Our goal is to develop players in a fun, moderately-competitive program where there are no try-outs or cuts. Youth basketball will be offered for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st-9th grade. Yes, you heard that right...we are now offering 7-9th grade teams! Pre-K and Kindergarten will be our Lil' Dribblers program and will run in two four-week sessions with a bad weather makeup session. 1st-9th grade will be broken into teams. The regular season will be approximately 10 weeks. Boys and girls will be separated for 3rd-9th grade if there are enough to do so. We will accept kids that make their school team onto our teams.FormatGrades 1 & 2 will have their own teams for the first time this year, which is a change from previous years. They will have one team practice per week and then a game on Saturdays. This will be an internal program with no travel. For 3rd-9th, we will follow a similar format to the 24-25 season for 3rd-9th with a minor tweak from previous years. Starting in November, all 3rd-9th grade teams will begin practicing with their permanent teams. Games will begin the first Saturday in December and go through mid-February. We will end with the jamboree. HELP NEEDED!It takes a village to run a good program. We will need help! Head coaches, assistant coaches, scoreboard keepers, book keepers, and referees. Referees will be paid $50 per game. One child of each head coach per team will be free. All coaches must have satisfactory local, state, and federal background checks completed by the Town. We do not accept background checks from employers, other organizations, etc. If you are interested in helping with the program, please fill out this form to express interest. Futsal (Indoor Soccer) - Youth - Futsal, U4 FUTSAL is back for another year and we're partnering with ConVal Soccer Club once again! Registration Deadline: February 22nd, 11:59pm What is Futsal?According to the United States Youth Futsal website: "Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world and is officially recognized by both FIFA and UEFA. Futsal earned the status of FIFA’s official form of indoor soccer in the 1980s as it was recognized as a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball- sized court with a smaller, low-bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls. Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations which can be translated into the outdoor game. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing. Futsal is played in all the continents of the world by over 100 countries with 12 million players. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka and Katia grew up playing the game and credit futsal with developing their skills."Why Futsal?According to the United States Youth Futsal website: "The top priority of Futsal, and USYF, is to motivate players in an environment that is conducive to learning. The more pleasure kids derive from their participation, the more they wish to play and practice on their own. While their instinct to play is natural, their affection and appreciation for soccer must be cultivated. Futsal is the foundation to such goals because it:- Allows players to frequently touch the ball.- Presents many opportunities to score goals and score goals often.- Encourages regaining possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game (defending).- Maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom.- Reflects the philosophy of player development expressed in state and national coaching schools.- Eliminates complicated rules such as off-sides that may hinder youngsters from "playing"."Our Program's Purpose/FormatThe purpose of our program is all of the benefits listed above for players, as well as to keep kids moving during a crummy time of year weather-wise. We expect this program to be fun and laid back for everyone involved. Each age group will meet together as one big group with no specifically-assigned teams. The coaches will be the same across each age group. Groups will mix up and scrimmage each other when they meet. There are no outside opponents and there will be no travel.
