It's basketball time!
ATTENTION: We are attempting to join the Souhegan Valley Youth Basketball league for 3rd-6th grade. While it is not yet official, we want to give everyone that heads up. We will NOT issue refunds on registrations related to whether we ultimately join the league or not. If you would like to wait on registration depending on whether we join the league or not, please do.
This year basketball our intent is to develop players while allowing 3rd-6th grade players the opportunity to play games. Youth basketball will be offered for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and first through sixth grade. Pre-K and Kindergarten will be our Lil' Dribblers program and will run in two four-week sessions with a bad weather makeup session. First through sixth grade will be broken into teams and will focus on player development as well as playing scrimmages and games. The regular season will be approximately 10 weeks. Sixth graders will be able to play for their school team as well as this program if they make their school team.
This year will follow a similar format to previous seasons for 3rd-6th grade. For the first 2-3 weeks of the season, each grade group will come together for skills and drills so the coaches can get to know the kids and assess their skills. Then, balanced teams will be created. Starting December 2nd, 3rd-6th grade players will start with their teams and will stay with for the remainder of the season. Please note that we have created the same registrations for girls and boys for 3rd-6th grade. We WILL separate boys and girls if there are enough players to do so.
HELP NEEDED!
It takes a village to run a good program. We will need help! Head coaches, assistant coaches, scoreboard keepers, book keepers, and referees. Referees will be paid $50 per game. One head coach and one assistant coach from each team will be paid the cost of one child's registration upon completion of the season and return of keys. All coaches must have satisfactory local, state, and federal background checks completed by the Town. If you are interested in helping with the program, please fill out this form to express interest.
Logistics:
Where: Peterborough Community Center & Peterborough Elementary, possible travel to local towns
When: November 6th-February 22nd
Days, Times, & Building: TBD based on coach availability, rough schedule below:
Lil' Dribblers: Saturday mornings only
Grades 1 & 2: 1 weeknight practice and scrimmages on Saturdays
Grades 3 & 4: 2 weeknight practices & games on Saturdays
Grades 5 & 6: 2 weeknight practices & games on Saturdays
Ages: Pre-K through 6th grade
Cost for Little Dribblers: $40 per session
Cost for 1st/2nd Grade: $65 for season
Cost for 3rd/4th Grade: $70 for season
Cost for 5th/6th Grade: $80 for season
Expectations:
- Balls will be provided
- Mouth guards are optional
- Players will need comfortable clothes and a water bottle
- a T-shirt or jersey is included in the registration fee
